Dear Intermediate School Families,
We believe that Intermediate School students should begin to engage in extracurricular activities in a way Lower School students do not (beyond Parker PM and outside of the normal school day), but that they should do so gradually, over time, beginning to relate to peers and teachers outside of the structure of the classroom. This is in keeping with the important Intermediate School themes of broadening perspectives and encouraging greater independence. We do not, however, believe that 4th and 5th graders should be over-scheduled, anxious about participation in activities or so committed to extracurriculars that sleep, schoolwork or a child’s playfulness suffer. Please review the this year’s activities below and share them with your child. Your children’s teachers will also present the options to them in school. We have sought to achieve balance with the offerings but intentionally wish to keep them appropriate for the age group.
