Dear Parker Community:
I am thrilled to report that Parker has successfully completed its nationwide leadership search for our next Head of Upper School.
Our extensive efforts included reviewing more than 50 resumes, conducting 15 initial phone interviews, following up with 10 more in-depth video conference interviews and hosting day-long visits by each of our four highly impressive finalists.
Parker is fortunate to have found an outstanding educator and experienced school administrator in Justin Brandon, who will be coming to Parker as our next Head of Upper School beginning July 1. Already an experienced Head of Upper School, Justin is eager to join the Parker community to support our progressive mission and help Upper School students thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Since 2012, Justin has served as the Upper School Director at Moorestown Friends School in New Jersey. Prior to that, he was the Form Dean at The Episcopal Academy in Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for student counseling, advising, scheduling and discipline. Earlier in his career, Justin served as Diversity Director at two schools, Episcopal School of Dallas and Mounds Park Academy in Minnesota. Throughout his career, Justin has taught social studies in addition to his administrative leadership positions. Justin also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Global Youth Leadership Institute as Vice Chair and Program Coordinator. A graduate of Riverdale Country School in New York, Justin earned his B.A. in Political Science at Macalester College in Minnesota and his M.A. in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota. His wife, Angela Miklavcic Brandon, is also an educator, and they have a young daughter, Jozi.
I am grateful to all of the teachers, students, parents and administrators who participated generously and enthusiastically in the interview process, and I look forward to arranging opportunities for Justin to visit Parker with his family later this spring to meet other members of our community.
I also want to take a moment to thank the members of the search team—Elizabeth Druger, Ruth Jurgensen, Mike Mahany, John Novick and Kimeri Swanson-Beck—for their diligent work during this inclusive process. It is also important for our community to know that the search team could not have done its job without the detailed work of Alexis Aguilar, Sarah Butterfield and Laureen Sweers.
An additional expression of gratitude goes to Ruth Jurgensen for her outstanding leadership as Interim Head of Upper School this year. Ruth has kept the Upper School running smoothly, while also fulfilling her responsibilities as Assistant Principal, with positive energy and thoughtful clarity.
Parker will benefit greatly from the experience, thoughtfulness, skill and energy that Justin Brandon will bring to our community. And we look forward to our future together as we continue Parker’s commitment to cultivating engaging teaching and nurturing relationships that inspire us all toward learning and growth as individuals and as citizens.
Daniel B. Frank, Ph.D.
