Positive Coaching Alliance Leads Workshop at Parker

On Monday, February 25, the Athletics Department kicked off the Upper School Spring Athletics season with a special workshop. With Parker’s Athletics mission to “emphasize the positive development of student-athletes,” the department worked with the Positive Coaching Alliance to hold the “Honoring the Game: Social Media Use—Elevating Yourself and Others” workshop for coaches and student-athletes.

The Positive Coaching Alliance mission “to transform the youth sports culture into a Development Zone® where all youth and high school athletes have a positive, character-building experience that results in better athletes, better people” makes it a perfect fit for working with our student-athletes. And that was evident as students worked with a certified PCA trainer to think deeper about their use of various social media outlets. Athletes were asked to “consider their personal brand and how social media plays into other people’s perceptions.”

Students left with a deeper understanding of some pitfalls of social media and felt better equipped to consider their social media usage.
