Second Grade Brownie Troop Donates to Make a Difference

By Lower and Intermediate School Spanish Teacher Karen Liszka

This week, 2nd grade Brownie Troop 25583 donated to make a difference. Students talked about all the people “in their circle” who support them in their daily lives. To broaden their circles, students then chose to reciprocate by supporting others in our community. The troop elected to spend some of the money they have raised to purchase toiletries and other necessities, such as socks and lip balm, to benefit others less fortunate than themselves. Students brainstormed and selected items they believed would be most helpful and bundled the items into individual care packages for donation.

The troop selected the organization Be Alright, a foundation dedicated to supporting people in transition due to difficult domestic situations, as the recipient of their supplies. Dr. Sonia Oyala, founder and board president of Be Alright, came to Parker to meet the girls, talk with them about the immediate impact of their donations and thank them for being active and caring members of our community.

Thank you so much, Troop 25583! If you would like to learn more about Be Alright, click here.
