Upper School Student-Athletes Volunteer at 51st Annual Special Olympics Spring Games
A team of Parker’s Upper School student-athletes recently lent their talents, time, support and sportsmanship to participants in the 2019 Special Olympics Spring Games Competition at Eckersall Stadium.
These students were among the 2,000 staff and volunteers helping 3,700 athletes and 1,300 coaches from across the Chicago area participate in athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic track and field events during a five-day period. While at the event, students helped with check-in and registration, staffed water stations, worked games at the Olympic Town area and served as staff during the events.
Special Olympics is a global organization that transforms the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities through year-round sport training and competition. Chicago is the largest Special Olympics region in the state of Illinois and larger than 26 other state chapters in the U.S. offering training and competition in 22 sports.
