The Kedzie Center Receives the 2018 Berkowitz Award

After weeks of reviewing proposals, the Upper School student Berkowitz Committee selected The Kedzie Center as the 2018 winner of the Susan F. Berkowitz Award for Outstanding Service to Children. The Kedzie Center was created through the efforts of North River residents, who worked to ensure that all community members would have access to compassionate, quality and culturally informed mental health care.

Parker was fortunate that Executive Director Angela Sedeño was on hand to receive this award. During her time at Morning Ex, Sedeño explained the history behind this organization and how this grant, made possible by the Berkowitz family, will help them reach their goal of expanding suicide prevention training for teachers.

The Susan F. Berkowitz Award for Outstanding Service to Children seeks to recognize the achievements of active citizens who are committed to improving the lives of youth through their work. Organizations nominated for the award reflect the life and work of the late Dr. Susan F. Berkowitz, who made many important contributions to our school and community as a clinical psychologist, community member and parent. Each year, the Berkowitz Committee has the honor of choosing the organization receiving the award.
