Administrators of Color in Independent Schools Conference a Success

More than 70 participants representing 33 schools from 13 states gathered at Parker for the inaugural Administrators of Color in Independent Schools Conference orchestrated by the school.

During the two days, participants had opportunities for connecting, mentoring and sharing, including keynote addresses by Northwestern University Provost Jonathan Holloway, American University Professor of History and International Relations Dr. Ibram X. Kendi and scientist in residence in liberal arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Eugenia Cheng.

Visiting administrators also participated in one of three break-out sessions as part of this gathering, focusing on topics such as “Leadership Branding for People of Color in Leadership in Independent Schools” and “Conducting a Climate Assessment at Your School,” while others heard a panel discussion on “Aspiring Heads” moderated by Principal Dan Frank, Head of School at Marin Country Day School Dr. Lucinda Lee Katz, Head of School at Edmund Burke School Damian Jones and Head of Latin School of Chicago Randall Dunn.

Participants and organizers consider this first Administrators of Color in Independent Schools Conference a success, and Parker anticipates this being an annual event moving forward.
