March Mathness 2019 Arrives!
Parker’s annual celebration of all things mathematical is upon us once again. Today is March 1, which can only mean a^0 thing: March Mathness is here! (Yes, we are supposing that a is any real number and siding with Herbert Vaughan.) This month will feature perennial favorites such as the Pi Recitation Contest and the school-wide March Mathness Problem of the Week, as well as some new surprises. MX speakers include the mathematically-inclined sibling of a current math teacher and a passionate Canadian with a firm conviction that mathematics should be about joyful discovery. Mathematics abounds at Parker, so keep your eyes peeled this month for our youthful mathematicians as they question, solve, ponder and discover!
March Mathness Problem of the Week
Stay tuned each week for our school-wide March Mathness Problem of the Week, released each Friday in March in This Week @. The hope is that families are solving these problems together—they may be challenging, but that’s okay! Some information:
- Each week will feature a central problem with multiple levels of difficulty: one star is designed for LS and IS students and their families; two stars is for IS, MS, US students and families; and three stars is meant for MS and US students and families.
- Send your solutions (answers and reasoning) and pictures (problem solving/investigating action shots encouraged!) to March Mathness Problem of the Week (mmpotw@fwparker.org).
- There are prizes for correct solutions as well as submitting complete solutions (correct or incorrect) for all PotWs.
