Poet Natasha Trethewey Visits Parker

Two-term U.S. poet laureate, Pulitzer Prize winner and 2017 Heinz Award recipient Natasha Trethewey recently visited the school as Parker’s 2019–20 Jeanne Harris Hansell Endowed Poet.

At Morning Ex, Trethewey provided students in grades 3–12 with thoughtful background and vivid context for each piece of poetry she shared. She then sat with a reporter from the school newspaper, The Weekly, for an interview before joining students from Parker’s Poetry Club, Poetry classes and Poetry Slam team for lunch. Upper School English students also had an opportunity to meet with Trethewey for additional readings and discussion as part of this very full day.

The school looks forward to Trethewey’s return for a free public poetry reading on Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. Click here to learn more or to reserve your seat.
