A Dance Intensive Independent Study

Junior Camille Freedman recently completed an Independent Study that allowed her to take on a pair of unique leadership roles within her dance studio community at Extensions Dance Center and better understand the work and responsibilities involved in running a nonprofit dance studio.

Freedman’s work focused on two subcomponents: administrative tasks and dance training. Throughout the year-long experience, she served as both an office assistant, doing various jobs assigned to her by Artistic Director Lizzie Mackenzie, and as a dancer, challenging herself to grow as an artist through technique classes, rehearsals and performances.

Every week, Freedman checked in with advisor and science teacher Kara Schupp to discuss her progress, challenges and triumphs. As a culmination of the experience, she produced this video documenting her time as an assistant and showcasing footage of her dance performances.

Freedman hopes her video “…illustrates all of the work I have done throughout the year and reflects the countless hours I dedicated to assisting and rehearsing.”
