Former Hansell Visiting Poet Wins Nobel Prize

Louise Glück, who was Parker’s Jeanne Harris Hansell Visiting Poet in 2014–15, was just awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 2020. She is the fourth woman to win the prize for literature since 2010 and only the 16th since the inception of the Nobel Prizes in 1901. Glück has previously received a Pulitzer Prize and served as United States Poet Laureate.

In May 2015, Glück spent two days at Parker as our Visiting Poet. While here, she shared with Upper School poetry students about her work and process, met with the junior class for an informal Q&A and was interviewed by student reporters from The Weekly before taking the stage for a public Nightviews reading in the Heller auditorium. Photos from these experiences are available here.

Glück serves as a prime example of the noteworthy people who educate and work directly with our students because of the Jeanne Harris Hansell Endowed Fund for Poetry. Be sure to save the date for the next public poetry event with our 7th annual Visiting Poet Natasha Trethewey on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 7 p.m.
