Movies Added to the PER

This week the Parent Education Resource features two full length documentary movies: "Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution" and “13TH."

"Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution" focuses on a group of campers from Camp Jened, a free-spirited summer camp for disabled teens, who evolved into activists for the disability rights movement. The movie won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and was awarded the Best Feature Award by the International Documentary Association.

“13TH,” which opened the New York Film Festival in 2016, takes its title from the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, “except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.” The movie explores how the American criminal system has become one of several methods of systemized racism and terror.

Both movies can be viewed on Netflix and found on YouTube.
