100 Days Links Junior Kindergarten

Learning in the youngest grades at Parker is a process that relies on teaching foundations and building upon those foundations in a gradual, developmentally appropriate manner. As master educators, Parker’s faculty are able to avoid rigid methods and relay these foundations in ways that allow students to have fun and create memories.

A perfect example is the Junior Kindergarten teachers’ approach to math and the concepts of numbers. Beginning on Day 1, students track each day of the year as it progresses, reaffirming their grasp of counting and adjusting to large numbers. This natural progression culminates in a fun “100 Days Celebration.” This year, each JK child did a chain link of 10 circles, then all 10 kids in a pod combined them in celebration of the 100th day of school today. Finally, all three JK classes connected all 600 hundred chain links to see how far it stretched across the field.

This type of instruction is a trademark of the Parker experience. Some teachers may have settled for the traditional rote memorization method when learning numbers, but Parker faculty believes in the value of creating these types of lasting educational memories.
