Sixth Grade Solves the Crime at Mystery Night

Last week, 6th grade students participated in Mystery Night, an evening full of activities that led to clues to help students solve the crime of who stole the Progressive Stone from Colonel Parker! 

Staff and faculty dressed in full costumes and portrayed a variety of superhero characters, including Dr. Squabber, who can communicate with pigeons, and Sarcasmo, who can fling insults and sarcasm in any direction. 

After hearing from each superhero about who they thought committed the crime, students completed four activities to receive additional clues to piece together who the suspect might be. The different stations included a silly version of Jeopardy, communication through dance moves, escape from a web like one that Spider-Man would spin and one centered on art. 

At the end, students enjoyed milkshakes while putting everything together to discover the culprits—Paula Beret and Jazz Square! 

Fifth grade teacher Mike McPharlin led the charge on the creation of the mystery and its characters to ensure a fun night for the students. 

“It was great to provide a fun night for an entire grade to come back and enjoy themselves at school,” he said. “A big shout-out to all the teachers and staff who put in a 14-hour day to help make this happen!”

Mystery Night was made possible by a generous donation from the parents of the class of 2027 at the 2020 Virtual Auction. Another Mystery Night will occur this fall for the incoming 6th grade class, courtesy of a contribution by the class of 2028 parents.
