Parker Student Technology Revitalization Project Succeeds

Last year, then-junior Ryder Selikow set out to make a difference by taking old computers and refurbishing them to help those without access to technology (read more here). Selikow asked the Parker community for donations—both monetary and technological—to aid his project, and it was a great success!

With your help, as well as some donations from the Youth Technology Corp, and under the guidance of Middle and Upper School Library and Information Services Specialist Annette Lesak and Upper School computer science teacher Brianna Ifft, Selikow donated six computers, seven laptops and two monitors to an annual college drive organized by UCAN Chicago, a nonprofit that strives to build strong youth and families through compassionate healing, education and empowerment.

“The thing that surprised me the most during this project,” Selikow shared, “was not only how great the need is for these machines, but also how much more work is left to be done to allow every kid in Chicago to have access to a computer.”

Selikow’s efforts are another great example of Parker students acting as empathic leaders and making a difference in our community.
