Paschen Resounds at Poetry Night

To the delight of all in attendance, poet, former Poetry Society of America Executive Director and Parker graduate Elise Paschen ’77 spent the evening at Parker as the 8th Annual Jeanne Harris Hansell Endowed Poet.

Principal Dan Frank welcomed everyone to this special poetry night in the Kovler Family Library and expressed his thanks, excitement and gratitude to all who helped bring this event back to Parker in a safe, responsible manner. Next, Upper School English teacher Alicia Abood introduced Paschen to the audience, describing her background and her impact on Abood’s classes, and shared a favorite poem to start the poetry reading on the right foot.

Paschen began by reading from her books of poetry—The Nightlife (2017), Bestiary (2009) and Infidelities (1996)—with a special focus on her newest work. She then graciously shared excerpts from a new manuscript she is working on, Heritage of the Blood Wolf Moon, which explores the history and landscape of the Osage reservation and celebrates her Osage heritage. Following her readings, Paschen fielded an array of questions from the audience.
