Zooming with One Who Marched

First grade students recently participated in a memorable Zoom-based experience that connected each classroom with a former Parker teacher—and current 1st grade grandparent—who attended the March on Washington in 1963 when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech.

Joan Bradbury, who spent 25 years as a 3rd grade teacher at Parker, shared her personal account of the March, recalling the crowds, excitement and many speeches during the hours leading up to Dr. King’s famous speech, and fielded student questions before sharing Christine King Farris’ My Brother Martin: A Sister Remembers Growing Up with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This special interaction helped to add more meaning to the ongoing celebration of Dr. King’s life and work, making it more memorable for all involved.
