Sophomore Wins Gymnastics Gold Medal in Germany

Parker’s very own sophomore Kai Uemura joined other members of the U.S. gymnastics team to sweep the men’s junior and senior team titles at the 2022 DTB Pokal Team Challenge and Mixed Cup at Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart, Germany.

Uemura, one of only five gymnasts on the Junior Men team, has been participating in gymnastics since his parents brought him to a gym when was three. “Gymnastics has been a part of my life for 13 years, and I am grateful that I came across this sport that fits me so well,” he explained. To prepare for this competition, he practiced daily while performing a variety of routines to help build confidence. “I was really excited to be selected for this competition,” Uemura shared. “This was my first international competition where I competed on international soil. Representing Team USA has been a dream of mine for many years so I was really looking forward to it.” His team’s hard work certainly paid off as they finished a full five points ahead of the runner-up, Germany.

Parker is very proud of Uemura and his diligent efforts in pursuing his passion for gymnastics. “I made a lot of great memories in Stuttgart,” he responded when asked about the competition. “I’m proud of what I accomplished but there are still lots of things to improve on. My ultimate goal is to go to the Olympics, and the journey there is still a long one.”

Join Parker in congratulating Uemura and wishing him the best as he works to accomplish his goal!
