Junior Immigration Justice Civic Lab Raises Awareness

Seeking to express solidarity with immigrants, both documented and undocumented, and to raise awareness about issues pertaining to immigration justice, juniors in the Immigration Justice Civic Lab group researched local immigration cases, made signs and traveled to high-traffic and symbolic locations around Chicago to let their voices be heard.

With signs expressing their thoughts, the juniors traveled to the pedestrian bridge over Lake Shore Drive south of the school, the largest Starbucks in the world and Wacker Drive in front of Trump Tower.  They focused on raising awareness for the case of Octaviano Ortiz of Cicero, Illinois.

Civic Lab is a program that pushes students beyond the classroom and allows them to think in ways they can effect change in their community and participate as active citizens. As these experiences encourage students to think and act with empathy, Parker is very proud of the juniors for their hard work.
