Positive Coaching Alliance Partner Offers Workshop to Begin School Year

The mission of Parker’s Athletics Department is to “emphasize the positive development of student-athletes,” and, with this in mind, more than 100 Upper School student-athletes participated in a workshop led by Positive Coaching Alliance to kick off the season on a positive note.

The Positive Coaching Alliance works “to transform the youth sports culture into a Development Zone® where all youth and high school athletes have a positive, character-building experience that results in better athletes, better people” and kept in line with this belief with Sports Can Battle Racism: A Workshop for Athletes. Recognizing the potential each athlete has to fight for social justice, this workshop aimed to give these students a toolkit to “increase awareness of personal and social identity and cultural bias, and create space for valuing diversity.” Through honest reflection and curiosity, these students worked to “create space for uniqueness, listen for understanding and challenge personal biases.”

We are very proud of these students for all their hard, sometimes difficult, work throughout this workshop and thank the Athletics Department for providing opportunities to these young thought leaders.
