Alumna Visits Parker Songwriters and Music Producers

By Music teacher Alec Synakowski
Parker’s Songwriting and Music Production students received a visit from music industry professional and Parker alumna Sloane “Skylar” Friedman ’14, who works in the Los Angeles music industry as a songwriter, producer and marketer for several A-list musicians and bands. She was excited to return to Parker and contribute her knowledge to the formative course in which she herself was enrolled eight years ago.

Friedman and the music students shared and compared their experiences with songwriting and music production; our students gained important insights from Friedman as she described the factors that helped guide her progress as an independent singer/songwriter and industry professional.

This visit was a wonderful example of the “full circle” exchange of knowledge and experience within the Parker student and graduate communities, with alumni returning to classes with firsthand perspectives that help guide the trajectory of our students’ lives. Friedman’s visit was especially timely, as her knowledge will help prepare the current songwriting students as they look forward to recording their original music at local Grammy-nominated studio Rax Trax later this month.
