Aldermanic Candidate Brian Comer Addresses Seniors

Forty-third Ward aldermanic candidate Brian Comer met with the senior class this week just ahead of the runoff election on April 4. Senior and 43rd Ward resident Hudson Lin introduced Comer, who then shared how he came to run for alderman. 

Comer lives on the same 43rd Ward street where he grew up and is an active citizen, serving as the president of the Sheffield Neighborhood Association. Additionally, he has participated in projects that have raised funds for the community, such as the renovation of Trebes Park and aid for the neighborhood’s most vulnerable populations during the pandemic. 

“Public service is literally running through my veins,” Comer said. “I want to roll up my sleeves and do the work.”

Comer said his most important issues are public safety and economic development, with a special emphasis on the success of small businesses. Overall, he hopes to increase engagement between the aldermanic office and its constituents. 

Comer then took questions directly from students that ranged from his views on the community’s relationship with the Police Department to his thoughts on renewable energy and what sets him apart from his opponent. 

The candidate concluded by encouraging students to vote and urging them to stay involved in public service. Candidates talking with students is a direct example of democracy in action and gives students the opportunity to speak with potential community leaders to ensure their voices are heard on issues that directly affect them.
