Junior Wins Essay Contest

Parker wants to congratulate junior Kumiko Muro for her tremendous achievement in winning the newly established Timuel Black Essay Contest for Chicago high school students!

This contest was created to honor and connect students with the life and legacy of longtime educator, activist and historian Timuel Black. Students had to write essays based on three prompts focusing on Black, specifically “the person, his principles and his projects.” History teacher Susan Elliott encouraged Muro to apply and she ended up winning first prize!
