ROV Excels at Midwest Regional Competition

By Head Coach Elizabeth Druger
The Parker ROV (Underwater Robotics) team rose to the occasion and earned second place in the Midwest MATE ROV Regional Competition—and first place in the Engineering and Technical presentation!

Last Saturday at Hoffman Estates High School, your Underwater Robotics team beat out past regional winners Walter Payton Prep, Jones Prep and many other schools to earn second place overall. The FWP ROV team was the only team competing that did not have a pool. In fact, the team practiced just three times in a pool (with its current ROV) prior to this Saturday’s competition.

The ROV team won the Engineering and Technical presentation with a perfect score! The professional engineers that heard the presentation from our students made several comments, such as, “Had we seen your ROV and not known who built it, we would have thought that it came from a college team,” and “We can’t believe that you built this ROV and your school doesn’t have a pool!”

Their impressive performance was enough for the judges to extend an invitation to the international competition in Longmont, Colorado, which starts Tuesday, June 20, so join us in wishing them all good luck and congratulations on their hard work so far!
