Rosenberg Lecturer Inspires the Parker Community

Parker was very fortunate to host Eric Liu as the 20th Annual Francine C. Rosenberg Memorial Lecturer this past week. Liu is the founder and CEO of Citizen University, as well as the author of many publications, including his most recent work, You’re More Powerful Than You Think: A Citizen’s Guide to Making Change Happen. Liu also has been an active leader in politics, media and business. He was a White House speechwriter for President Bill Clinton and later Clinton’s deputy domestic policy advisor, a regular columnist for CNN.com and correspondent for TheAtlantic.com.

As part of his visit, Liu spoke to a packed Heller Auditorium crowd at Morning Ex and had separate meetings with the Upper School students and our faculty and staff. Using his trademark energy, insights and unique personal history, Liu challenged our community to think larger about their identity and privilege and how that could affect the “Republic” of America. Furthermore, he encouraged each listener to think about the questions, “Am I showing up?” and “Am I being a good citizen?”

Liu’s energy and eloquence left all in our community, whether they were our youngest students or those who came for the nighttime lecture, with the desire to “be a part of something greater” and the confidence that, regardless of our past actions, thoughts or beliefs, we can have a positive impact on the future of America and the world at large.
