ClubFair Promotes a Range of Student Passions

Leaders of more than 30 Upper School student clubs recently gathered in the renovated Kovler Family Library for the second annual ClubFair, an event to help students promote and sign up for myriad opportunities to pursue their passions beyond the school’s formal academic offerings. At this event, club leaders stood side by side, addressing their Upper School peers, pitching their clubs and encouraging interested students to sign up to attend their next formal meetings.

Working in conjunction with Upper School Dean of Student Life Chris Bielizna, student group leaders will compose the Parker Organization of Clubs and Activities (POCA). This group will collaborate on club life and the shared sponsorship of events at the school. Additionally, POCA will be an intellectual incubator for the formation of new traditions and a means to put hands to work promoting and maintaining the vitality of long-standing traditions. Further, a subset of this group will form the Club Recognition Board (CRB), which will provide support and structure to co-curricular and extracurricular life at Parker. Each group will its craft a charter containing their mission statement, constitution, leadership structure, inclusivity statement, definition of what membership entails and a fair and balanced election procedure. Those wishing to form an official “club” will meet before the CRB to receive assistance in fleshing out their organizational parameters. POCA/CRB members will provide significant input into the function of student-directed community life at Parker.
