IS Spanish Enrichment Club, ¡Martes Social!, celebrates el día de gracias!

What do you mean there is no Thanksgiving in Mexico, Spain or Argentina? Our 4th and 5th graders in the IS Spanish enrichment club ¡Martes Social! took a deeper look at similarities and differences between Thanksgiving in the United States and the Hispanic world. During a shared breakfast of pan dulce (sweet bread) and jugos de banana-fresa, mango, melocotón y piña (banana-strawberry, mango, peach and pineapple juices), students reviewed what they know about the fall celebration to compare and contrast the two cultures. Students brainstormed in Spanish about what they are thankful for in their lives, had an opportunity to write about it and then made their own calabaza de gracias, or Thankful Pumpkin.

If you have an Intermediate School student who would like to join the fun, mark your calendar for this year’s ¡Martes Social! meetings on the following Tuesdays: December 12, January 9, February 6, March 6, April 24 and May 15.  We always meet at 7:30 a.m. in the Sheridan Family Café. Please RSVP on the Parent Portal. No experience required!
