¡Martes Social!, Celebrates Snow!

How do you describe what to do with snow to people who live in Guatemala, Costa Rica or Panamá? Our 4th and 5th graders in the IS Spanish Enrichment Club ¡Martes Social! took a deeper look at how climate affects living in the United States compared to the Hispanic world. During a shared breakfast of pan dulce (sweet bread) and jugos de banana-fresa, mango, melocotón y piña (banana-strawberry, mango, peach and pineapple juices), students reviewed what they know about the weather to compare the two cultures. Then, students brainstormed in Spanish about how to build a snow person, labeled all the body parts, then colored in a persona de nieve, or Snow Person.

If you have an IS student who would like to join the fun, mark your calendar for this year’s ¡Martes Social! meetings on the following Tuesdays: January 9, February 6, March 6, April 24 and May 15. We always meet at 7:30 a.m. in the Sheridan Family Café. RSVP on the Parent Portal. No experience required!
