Pediatric Neurosurgeon Visits Upper School Biology Class

On Monday, January 8, Dr. Simone Treiger Sredni joined the Advanced Topics in Biology classes to share her research in pediatric brain cancer. Dr. Sredni is an M.D., Ph.D. and associate professor of pediatric neurosurgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Students had an important opportunity to see the ways concepts they have learned in class, such as the cell cycle, the role of proteins and CRISPR, are fundamental and integral components in real-world science. Students heard from a researcher first-hand the details of the scientific process from gene discovery to publication of research.
