From Argonne to the Heller: A Day with the Pritzker Scientist

On the day of his evening lecture, Professor Rick Stevens hosted more than 20 Upper School science students to his workplace at the Argonne National Laboratory. Students had the unique opportunity to tour the site’s Advanced Photon SourceAdvanced Protein Characterization Facility and the Machine Room and Visualization Laboratory at Argonne’s Leadership Computing Facility. At each stop, students heard firsthand accounts from scientists, researchers and distinguished fellows at the facility about their current work and Argonne’s role in make that work possible.

Stevens returned to Parker following this field trip, meeting informally with members of our Upper School robotics team and other science students before taking the stage later that night to discuss how emergent computing technologies impact, alter and improve our lives. Parker is very fortunate to have Professor Rick Stevens as the 11th annual Robert A. Pritzker Visiting Scientist•Inventor•Engineer in Residence and we thank him for spending this day with the community!
