Parker Students Report to Polls in Record Numbers

More than 30 Upper School students will get a taste of participatory democracy in action this election season when they report to the polls on Tuesday, March 20 to serve as student judges in the March 20 primary elections through the Mikva Challenge.

Upper School History teacher Andy Bigelow originally shared this opportunity with students early in the first semester, and he was more than impressed with the record turnout of interested students who signed up. Participating students were required to participate in four hours of training to prepare for their varied roles on Election Day.

The Chicago Board of Elections and Mikva Challenge provide one of the most robust student judge programs in the country. Through this program, 2,000 high school juniors and seniors from more than 50 schools learn about the voting process and serve as election judges at polling places across the city on Election Day.
