Lower and Intermediate School Deliver a Winter Music Wonderland
Lower and Intermediate School students welcomed the forthcoming December Recess with song in their annual Winter Program Morning Ex. Filled with vocal talent and emergent instrumental ability, this year’s program was a musical celebration reflecting a range of winter traditions from around the globe.
Senior Kindergartners performed the traditional Hannukkah song, “Shine Little Candles” and had the audience join them for “Ode to Joy.” First grade students shared their rendition of “Campana Sobre Campana” from Andalusia, Span where it is sung during Las Posadas. Fourth grade students offered a rousing rendition of the traditional Greek version of Happy New Year that was translated to English and arranged by Music Teacher Maria Foustalieraki. Following this the Junior Kindergartners’ treated the audience to an adorable version of “Song of the Snowman.” Second grade students sang “Sansa Kroma,” a traditional song from Ghana to recognize Kwanzaa. Next, their 3rd grade counterparts’ performed the Hanukah song “Rock of Ages (Ma’oz Tzur)” and the traditional Islamic poem “Tala Al Badru Alayna.” Finally, 5th grade vocalists welcomed the season with their version of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and combined their talents with 3rd grade singers for a unique finale featuring a layered medley of the timeless “Auld Lang Syne.”
Many thanks to our Lower and Intermediate School students for lending their talents and Parker’s Music Department for orchestrating the show!
