Three Parker students received an inspirED/International Bullying Prevention Association award at the recent International Bullying Prevention Conference at the Chicago Marriott. Each year, this conference brings together more than 800 participants from around the globe for an opportunity to connect, learn and be inspired. Additionally, InspirED’s framework and approach, which teens, educators and SEL experts designed, empower students to work together to create more positive school climates and foster greater well-being in their schools and communities.
In collaboration with the Yale Center of Emotional Intelligence, Facebook and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, student participants spent a day of the conference working towards change for their schools. Participants voted to recognize Parker students Jade Nguyen ’20, Alex Ostrom ’20 and Rebecca Gross ’21 for having the best proposal and plan for improving Parker’s culture and climate.
Their topic involved student awareness of our new handbook policies; ways to improve transparency, communication, trust and confidentiality between administrators and students about disciplinary issues that arise; and consistency in restorative and punitive interventions the school implements for student infractions.
Students received their award from Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence Associate Research Scientist Jessica Hoffmann as part of the introduction of Friday’s keynote speaker Senior Vice President for U.S. Social Impact, Sesame Workshop Jeanette Betancourt, Ph.D.
