Inktober Promotes Art This Month

Artists have been contributing their creative works to a community “Inktober” display.

Inktober is a month-long art challenge that tasks participants with improving their skills and developing positive drawing habits by producing and sharing drawings on regular intervals throughout the month of October. Created by artist Jake Parker in 2009, Inktober has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists participating each year—including illustrators within the Parker community.

Art teacher Kay Silva loves to draw and views it as “a creative and immediate way, that everyone is capable of, to communicate without words.” Silva has participated in Inktober for the past 10 years and has curated an Inktober display outside her classroom each year since 2023. She shared, “We need more outlets for sharing our creativity with each other,” and she invites all members of the Parker community to contribute their talents to this year’s display, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, family members, caregivers and friends.

Anyone who wants to contribute should create a small drawing (5"x5" or less) using any material and place it in the envelope on the Inktober board. The drawing will be displayed the next day. To get ideas about what to draw, those interested can reference the official “prompts” here or draw anything they want! Autumn and Halloween themes are popular since October is “spooky season.” All school-appropriate drawings are welcome!
