The Parker Girls Basketball team tipped off their season on Monday against Morgan Park Academy.
While this may have been the first opportunity for the Parker community to watch the team play, it is the culmination of weeks of practices and open gyms that the student-athletes have already participated in this season.
Head coach Madi Maldonado is beginning her third season in charge of the Girls Varsity program.
Joining her are captains and seniors Jojo Husbeck and Kiley Moss and junior Miriam Johnson. Other key pieces returning from last year’s team include juniors Alya Pressman and Sloane Kins and senior Mia Vitacek.
With so many contributors returning for another season, the future is bright for a program hoping to earn regional championship opportunities and beyond.
“We are looking forward to building on our thriving Girls Basketball program this season,” said Coach Maldonado. “With most of our starters returning from last year, plus some skilled underclassmen, we are excited about what this team can do.
“Our team is made up of hardworking basketball players who compete and strive for better every day. They are supportive teammates who push each other to reach their goals and ultimately have fun doing it! We hope this is the year we bring a regional championship to our banner in the gym!”
While the matchup against Morgan Park Academy may be the first game on the schedule, there are plenty of other opportunities to watch the team play, highlighted by the Thursday, December 18 matchup against Christ The King, a rematch of last year’s regional tournament; senior day against Beacon Academy; and, of course, the Clark Street Classic game at DePaul University’s campus on Friday, December 12.
