Chess Team Triumphs at St. Ignatius Tourney

The Upper School Chess team had an impressive showing at the Chicago Chess Conference Postseason Tournament at St. Ignatius.

The Upper School Colonel Chessmasters have had a great season leading into the tournament, finishing second in their conference with an 8-1 season record. Their only loss was to conference rival St. Ignatius. Fortunately, the team had a rematch against St. Ignatius in the final round of this year's tournament. Sophomore Isaiah Jakobe led the team, winning all three of his games on board one, which propelled the team to win the tournament overall—repeating their victory from last year.

The team advances to Sectionals at Highland Park High School at the end of January to qualify for State in Peoria in February, when they hope to defend the 1A state championship title they earned last year.

Congratulations to the team on their successes to date, and the school hopes to see a repeat championship!
