Students Assist at Greater Chicago Food Depository
A group of 10th grade students spent their Civic Fieldwork Day packing bulk food donations into family-sized parcels to support under-resourced members of the Chicago community.
To facilitate community engagement as part of Civic Lab coursework, teachers connect students with organizations that support Chicagoans in need, many of whom are immigrants.
On a recent visit to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, one group of students worked together to repack bulk donated food items into smaller packages to donate to families.
Direct engagement with organizations reflects prior sophomore Fieldwork experiences to help students connect intention with action, realize our mission and “act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse democratic society and global community.”
