The 10th grade Spanish-language Civic Lab group, which focuses on the theme of migration, just completed its third fieldwork day.
In September they volunteered with a Pilsen-based organization to distribute Know-Your-Rights flyers and signs to homes and businesses. They also volunteered in two citizenship classes at an organization in Pilsen that offers classes to help people prepare to take the naturalization test to become U.S. citizens. Parker students worked with the adults in two citizenship classes on the 128 civics questions, as well as the reading, writing and interview portions of the test.
The group has had a wonderful experience! The coordinator of the education program wrote, “We’re still smiling from your visit this morning! Our students were elated by the interactions and activities—thank you so much for your time, energy and support. Thank you again for your incredible collaboration and support—you and your students truly make a difference!”
