The 2nd grade invited their families and the community to travel the world with them and explore what they had learned in the 2nd Grade Country Share.
Each of the 2nd grade classrooms voted on the country they would investigate as part of this project, landing this year on Egypt, Indonesia and Japan. They then conducted research on their assigned country using the Kovler Family Library, online resources, classroom visits from community members with connections to these countries and more.
Students learned much about each of these countries and cultures, covering a wide range of topics, including arts, holidays and traditions, games, clothing, animals and more. They spent time in music classes learning each country’s traditional music and worked with Quest Food Management Services Executive Chef Andrew Zubia to explore each country’s cuisine. On the day of the Country Share, students welcomed families with a message and song in the Heller Auditorium. Next, families, teachers and other students walked around and heard from the 2nd grade experts on their project.
Second grade teacher Brittney Washington shared, “Some feedback from families was, ‘We're so impressed!’ The students worked so hard and knew so much information. There also were many comments about how amazingly tasty the food was that Quest’s Chef Andrew, Chef Zac and the team provided . They also loved the students singing!”
Parker thanks the teachers, students and parents/guardians who helped make this year’s Country Share a success!
