Siblings Make History at National Championship

Parker 3rd grader Hanna Grieb and 5th grader Theo Grieb are the first Illinois siblings to be crowned national champions at the National History Bee National Championships.

The duo earned this accolade in a vigorous exam and buzzer-based competition for elementary and middle school students held during Memorial Day Weekend in Orlando by International Academic Competitions

Theo’s love of history previously helped him become World Champion (Elementary Division) of the 6th International History Olympiad in Paris last July.

In individual history events at Nationals (which took place May 21–25), Theo and Hanna came in first in the country in their respective grades in American History, African American History and Women’s History.

The National History Bee is a history competition for students that tests world history from thousands of years ago to the present. In the United States, interested students must pass an Online Regional Qualifying Exam to compete in Regionals, and the top three finalists of each state’s Regionals advance to Nationals.

At Nationals, students compete in individual history events (all determined by exam scores) and buzzer-based bees like the National History Bee and the U.S. History Bee.

Both siblings recently discussed their success on Fox32Chicago: https://youtu.be/NzIabjvJ3K4
