New Musical Theatre Summer Workshop Shines Bright

On Thursday, August 27, and Friday, August 28, Parker’s Performing Arts Department introduced a new collaborative musical theatre opportunity for students in 7th–12th grades: a free, two-day Musical Theatre Summer Workshop. Performers and teachers from across the divisions came together for a shared creative process.

Participants honed their acting, singing, and movement skills alongside members of our Middle School Musical team—Dana O’Brien and Rob Denien—and Upper School Musical team—Kenesha Reed, Christian Jackson, and Dr. Caleb Goh. Together, students rehearsed and staged two musical numbers: “Magic to Do” from Pippin and “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.

The workshop was a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends, experience what it is like to work with different teachers, and share moments on stage through singing and dancing. Participants also met with Darragh Hallinan, sibling of 8th grader Eoghan Hallinan, who recently won the Sondheim Award for Best Actor and went to the Jimmy Awards on Broadway. Darragh spoke about his experience at the Jimmys and shared his wisdom about being a performer in high school. Students were fortunate to hear from Darragh and learn from all that he shared. He even sang a number for the students from The Bridges of Madison County!
