Kid Cudi Visits Parker’s Songwriting and Music Production Class

On Tuesday, October 20, Parker’s Upper School Songwriting and Music Production class welcomed Grammy Award-winning artist (and Parker parent) Scott Mescudi—aka Kid Cudi.

During his visit, Mescudi shared music and stories with Parker’s songwriting students for more than an hour, reflecting on his own rise to prolific musical fame and the personal artistic processes he continuously uses to create award-winning music.

The discussion was not one-sided; students shared their own projects to get feedback from Mesucdi. All in attendance were inspired and energized by the rare opportunity to interact and collaborate with such a well-known artist.

Mescudi’s lessons were especially impactful for the Upper School songwriters, but the lessons also serve as important reminders to the entire community on their own respective journeys:
  1. Be authentic. Tell your own truth.
  2. Create fearlessly, experiment, and trust the process.
  3. Find your purpose, perfect your craft, and connect with people.
Kid Cudi’s words will soon be printed on the walls of Parker’s recording studio, reminding current students and future generations of songwriters about the value of authenticity, hard work, and creativity.

“You don’t have to be perfect to make something meaningful. You have something unique to say. Be curious, make things, trust your voice, and keep going.”
