Senior Darius Cleaver finished in 2nd place at the Chicago Chess Conference’s Opening Individual Blitz Tournament.
Hosted at the De La Salle Institute, the tournament included 78 students representing all 10 of the conference teams in G/5 blitz chess. In this style of play, each player has five minutes for the entire game, which forces a very rapid pace of play and adds complexity to the game.
In addition to Cleaver’s 2nd place finish, sophomore Isaiah Jakobe finished 8th, and assistant team captain and senior Tyler Garibaldi finished 21st.
A wonderful start to what promises to be a great year.
