Two Parker teachers were recognized with 2025 University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Awards.
Upper School History teacher Jeanne Barr and Upper School Science teacher Leslie Webster received the honor for their dedication to their profession and commitment to their students.
For the past 30 years, this program has asked incoming freshmen at the University of Chicago to nominate teachers who have challenged them intellectually, opened new areas of discovery or channeled their personal interests into paths for intellectual growth.
In a packet of materials sharing news of these awards with the school, Beckett Nikitas ’25 praised Barr for her unmatched commitment to his growth and education, adding, “No one has contributed more to my understanding of civil liberties or my belief in the importance of democracy.”
Diego Silva ’25 spoke of Webster’s impact on him as a student new to Parker in 11th grade. He wasn’t sure if he would be able to connect with teachers at Parker, and Webster proved him wrong. During his time at the school, Silva developed a relationship with Webster as a student and an Assistant Teacher, sharing, “Through both experiences, I can undoubtedly say that you are an incredible teacher and kindhearted individual.”
Parker congratulates Barr and Webster for this tribute to their hard work and impact on their students. The school couldn’t be more proud of the transformative experiences that take place on campus and in classrooms each and every day!
