US Architecture and Photography Classes Combine for a Trip Around Chicago
By Upper School teacher Travis Chandler
Last week, Upper School students in the Architecture and Photography classes took a joint field trip to explore Chicago. The group traveled downtown on the Red Line and began the day near the Chicago Cultural Center.
The purpose of the field trip was to give students a hands-on opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in class, with the photography students focusing on practicing their street photography skills after studying the work of Vivian Maier. At the same time, the architecture class embarked on a walking tour of Chicago’s architectural landmarks, capturing photographs of notable examples along the way.
Both classes will use their photos as inspiration and reference for future projects. This marked the third annual joint field trip between the two classes and was a great success, highlighted by beautiful weather and the inspiring cityscapes of downtown Chicago.
