OLAS Leads Morning Ex and Spirit Week Celebrations

By Senior Alayna Degante
The annual Hispanic/Latine Heritage Morning Ex took place on Friday, October 17. Senior Chris Cedillo started the MX with his poem “Spirit.”

The Organization of Latin American Students heads introduced the MX with an ode to immigrants, specifically Latin American immigrants for Hispanic Heritage Month. OLAS’s goal was to celebrate all the success and traditions of Latin American people across the globe.

The MX then featured duo Jaque and Christopher Cabral. Christopher is a co-owner of Chi x Movement, with experience in national and international competitions and teachings. The duo performed and taught audience members combinations of “merengue, cumbia, salsa and bachata,” as well as provided the historical origins of these dances. The Hispanic/Latine Heritage MX offered an interactive experience for audience members to learn more about Latin dance styles.

OLAS also hosted its first spirit week—the week of the MX—which include themes such as “Jersey Day,” “Wear the Colors of Your Flag Day,” “Floral Pattern Day” and “Fiesta Friday.” The goal of the spirit week was to help celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, and everyone was encouraged to participate.

We were happy to see that, throughout the week, many students participated in the OLAS’s spirit week.
