A squad of 4th and 5th grade dancers performed moves they have been working on this semester.
The “Parker Groovers” Intermediate School Dance Club emerged last year as the brainchild of current juniors Fiona Chazen and Jade Labkon. Both students loved to dance and wanted to share their passion for the art form with younger students. After conversations with their Advisors, counselors and the Intermediate and Middle School Office, the duo decided to launch a new student club.
For the past three semesters, Chazen and Labkon have coached the Parker Groovers, conducting early morning practice in the Small Gym with the younger students once weekly for a seven-week session. They lead their younger counterparts in exploring dance styles, participating in dance games and creating their own choreography with the goal of displaying their skills for an audience in a showcase at the end of the session.
This year’s showcase included the Parker Groovers dancing in duos to Taylor Swift and as a team to “Golden” from K Pop Demon Hunters. Following their performance, the Groovers invited the audience of friends, family, teachers and staff to join them in dance, and everyone participated in a dance party to close the event.
