Congressional Candidate Jason Friedman Visits Parker Politics
Candidate for Illinois’ 7th Congressional District and Parker parent Jason Friedman met with Upper School students in the Parker Politics Club. After his son, junior Bo Friedman, introduced him, Friedman described his background and reasons for running before fielding questions from students.
He explained his history in politics from his time at Georgetown Law to volunteering for the campaigns of Senator Paul Simon and Senator Carol Moseley Braun, the first African-American woman elected to the U.S. Senate. He then worked in the West Wing for Rahm Emanuel in his role as advisor during Bill Clinton’s presidency.
Friedman’s political past has brought him to this race, after long-serving Congressman Danny Davis announced his plans to retire after nearly 30 years. He spoke about the field of candidates and that he and his team are gearing up for the primary election on March 17, 2026. He encouraged students to consider volunteering, through canvassing and phone banking, and noted some students who were already participating in outreach efforts.
Students asked questions spanning topics from gerrymandering issues and immigration policy to transgender rights and Democrats finding their identity. Friedman also commented on finding commonality with Republicans to work together and enact real change.
Parker is grateful to Friedman for coming to speak to students and urging their participation in our democracy. The school’s mission is to educate students to become engaged citizens, and guests like Friedman bring democracy in action right to the classroom.
Francis W. Parker School educates students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse democratic society and global community.
