The weather may be cooling down but the dance floor was heating up! Students in SK teacher Kirkland La Rue’s class took part in the 3rd annual SK Kirk Disco Dance to culminate Disco Week.
“Disco Week started three years ago when Ms. Nic and I realized that we shared a love of disco music,” La Rue shared. “In the time since, what has evolved has been a chance for children to learn about light and shadow, make some disco-inspired art, practice some groovy dance moves, hear some really groovy tunes and—plan a party!”
And so, wearing their “finest, glitteriest, shiniest, sparkliest disco party clothes,” SK Kirk gathered in the Parker PM room. First, they created their very own disco balls using plates, papers and tin foil and drew designs that represented the light and fun of disco. Next, they gathered to clap their hands, stomp their feet and move to the music.
Whether it was in the conga line or the dance circle, each student showcased their disco moves and enjoyed a fun Friday afternoon together making memories.
