Parker Shines at Illinois Music Conferences

By Music teacher Alec Synakowski
Parker students proudly represented the school at this year’s Illinois Music Education Conference and All-State Festival (IMEC) in Peoria, Illinois.

Parker senior Dhruv Moorthy auditioned for and was accepted into the most selective music ensembles in the state. On his bass trombone, Dhruv rehearsed with the All-State band for more than 12 hours during three days before performing alongside hundreds of the top student musicians in Illinois.

Earlier in the year, another outstanding Parker musician joined Dhruv: senior Lexi Schneider on flute, who successfully auditioned for the Illinois Music Education Association District 1 music festival. These students proudly rose within the ranks of District 1 music ensembles.

At the same IMEC festival in Peoria, Parker’s Music faculty attended many, and hosted some, of the countless professional development presentations and seminars; events ranged from musical field trip planning, interactive mariachi bands, women-in-jazz seminars, Baraat ensembles and countless other inspiring events.

This has been a successful year for Parker’s involvement with ILMEA, and Parker’s Performing Arts Department will certainly continue its vibrant connection to the festival in the coming years!
